Rank is the bid. Nothing else.
UniverseRank is a public marketplace for attention. No ads, no API keys, no revenue share, no editorial list. You pay to stand above everyone else in a market, and you hold that position only while you are the one paying the most for it. There is no algorithm underneath this and no quality score. Every rule below is enforced in code, not in a policy document nobody reads.
One clock: now
There are no weekly boards, no monthly boards and no all-time hall of fame. There is one standing and it is the current one. A position belongs to whoever is paying for it at this moment and it is lost the instant somebody outbids them. Nobody is celebrated here for what they paid last month.
This is deliberate. Historic boards let a brand buy a week of glory and coast on the screenshot forever. Here, the moment your value stops being eligible you disappear from the board entirely.
How a position is won
Rank in a market is the sum of your eligible bids in that market, highest first:
rank_value = SUM(your eligible bids in this market) ORDER BY rank_value DESC, first_reached_at ASC, listing_id ASC
- The minimum to get on any board is $0.50: the same everywhere, in every country and every industry. A smaller budget buys a deeper position, never no position.
- Taking a held position costs at least the configured increment above it, $0.25 plus 2% worldwide. Increments scale with how contested a market is; the entry price never does.
- Paying less than the top price still puts you on the board, at whatever rank that money reaches.
- Equal value: the earlier bid keeps the higher rank. Bid times are recorded to the millisecond, because at one-second resolution that rule cannot actually be decided.
Raising your own bid: you pay the difference
Enter the same listing again and bid higher, and you are charged only the gap between what you already hold and what you are going for. Your existing value does not evaporate and you do not pay for it twice.
Someone else cannot take your position by paying that same difference. They have to exceed your total eligible value, not the increment you just added.
A bid buys value, not a promised seat
We quote you a price to reach a target position, and that quote is recalculated on our server the instant before your payment is created. What your browser thinks the number is has no bearing on what you are charged. But between the quote and the payment, someone else may commit money.
So the guarantee is precise: your money buys the eligible value you paid for. It does not buy a reserved slot. If the board moved while you were paying, you land where that value puts you. Reserved placement is a different product. A takeover, with real inventory locking.
Markets do not share money
This is not one leaderboard. Every geography, industry and combination of the two is a separate market with its own price. Money you put into Canada › Cybersecurity ranks you there and nowhere else.
You can hold as many positions as you are willing to pay for, simultaneously. Changing your listing's category or country afterwards does not drag your spend with it. The money stays where you put it, and competing somewhere new means bidding there.
What you can list
- A product, business, app or campaign website, or a social @handle.
- Query strings are stripped. Affiliate, referral and tracking URLs do not create a separate listing and will not work. The same product behind ten UTM tags is one listing.
- Link shorteners are refused. If you submit one we resolve it and list the real destination, or reject it if we cannot. Nobody ranks behind a redirect we cannot see through.
- Platform links are keyed by path. Two apps on the App Store, two repositories on GitHub, two profiles on X are separate listings with separate bids. They never share a position.
- Chat and invite links are not allowed: Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Messenger, Signal and similar. This board is for products and profiles, not group chats.
- Sexual and adult content is not allowed.
- The destination must relate to the thing being advertised. Change where a listing points and it loses its verification and goes back through review.
Categories are yours to choose
We do not guess your category with a model and make you send a direct message to fix it. You pick from 813 categories across 63 industries when you create the listing, and you change it yourself in your dashboard at any time.
Categories are priced by how contested they are. Attention in personal-injury law does not cost what attention in poetry costs, and pretending otherwise would just mean the expensive verticals price out everyone else on a single shared board.
| Extreme | A single customer is worth thousands. Acquisition here is brutal and priced accordingly. |
| High | Established paid-acquisition vertical. |
| Elevated | Real competition for commercial intent. |
| Standard | Ordinary commercial competition. |
| Low | Discovery and community markets. Minimum bids are reduced. |
Restricted and refused
Drugs, medicines, gambling and weapons are not accepted here at any price, in any country, however legal they are locally. That covers cannabis, CBD, tobacco, nicotine and vaping; prescription pharmaceuticals, online pharmacies, peptides and performance-enhancing drugs; sports betting, casino, poker and lottery; and firearms, ammunition and explosives.
Also refused everywhere: adult services, commercial surrogacy, human tissue, counterfeit goods, spyware and hacking services, fake reviews, document forgery, ivory and endangered species, looted antiquities, payday lending, unlicensed money transfer, nuclear materials, and political advertising.
Gambling deserves a specific note, because most of the industry takes the money. It is unlawful outright in China, most of India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and a long list of other jurisdictions, and enforcing a licence-by-licence rule across the rest is not something a ranking platform can do responsibly. So the whole category is closed. 41 categories are published in our taxonomy marked not accepted: the refusal is explicit rather than a silent omission, so you can check it.
A smaller set is lawful in most of the world and unlawful in particular countries. Alcohol, crypto, retail forex, dating. Those are not deleted globally; they are blocked market by market, and a blocked market cannot be opened by bidding into it.
Some categories carry obligations before anyone can rank in them. Licensed professions must show licensing. Health, treatment and financial-outcome claims are reviewed by a person.
Claiming a listing
0 companies are already listed here without anyone from the business having shown up. Those listings are visible and searchable, but they cannot hold paid rank and never appear on the leaderboard.
If one of them is yours, prove you control the domain. A meta tag, a DNS record or a file, and it transfers to your account for free. Find your company →
After you pay
- A verified payment event is what claims the rank. Not a redirect, not a success page, not this website telling you it worked. We wait for the payment provider to tell us, with a valid signature.
- Your listing is public and clicks go to the URL you submitted, with tracking parameters removed.
- You are charged in your own currency. We store the amount, the currency and the exchange rate at that moment, permanently. A later currency swing never silently moves you up or down the board.
- Refunds, chargebacks and fraud reversals stop counting toward rank and the board recomputes. Nothing is deleted. A reversal is a new entry in the ledger, so the history stays reconstructable.
- A suspended listing stops appearing and stops receiving delivery immediately. Its financial records are untouched.
Sponsored placement is separate and always labelled
Rank buys a position on a board. Push buys distribution. Sponsored cards in feeds. They are different products and they never blend. Every sponsored card carries a Sponsored mark, and paid delivery weight is never mixed into a ranking score behind your back.
We do not bill for bot traffic, duplicate clicks or a viewer refreshing repeatedly. Those are recorded as invalid, excluded from your bill, and shown to you as a separate number rather than a silent gap.
We never publish what anyone pays
Your advertising budget is your business. We show the cost to take a position: never the amount the company holding it has spent, anywhere on the public site or in the API.
That distinction is not cosmetic. The exact cost to pass someone is their value plus a known increment, so publishing it exactly would publish their spend by subtraction. Public prices are therefore rounded up to a readable step: the band conceals their figure, and because it only ever rounds up it can never quote you less than the true cost. At checkout the server computes the exact amount and you are charged that, which is usually a little less than the band you saw.
The live activity feed carries no amounts either. A feed streaming bid sizes is a feed of everyone's marketing budget in real time.
You always see your own figures in full, in your own dashboard. Nobody else does.
What a high rank means
It means that brand is currently paying more than the others in that market. That is all it means. It is not a review, a recommendation, an award, a safety check or a measure of quality, and we label every paid position on every surface so that nobody can present it as one.
Every listing can be reported, reports are rate-limited and anonymous to the advertiser, and repeated reports flag a listing automatically. Moderator decisions are written to an audit log with a reason code.
